Which award is better, Season NBA MVP or Sports Illustrated Sportsman of the Year?

My opion is SI Sportsman of the Year is better. Why? Check it out!

1. It's a RARE award for nba players to achieve %26amp; the season mvp is achieved every year in the nba. Something that's rare to get you'll cherish it more.

2. If you won Sportsman of the Year it means that you've won a nba title that year %26amp; you must of done something that you'll never be forgotten. There been plenty season nba mvps that's been forgotten %26amp; never won a title.

3. There is only five nba players to win Sportsman of the Year. Russell, Kareem, MJ, T. Duncan, %26amp; D-Wade. Great players like Magic, Bird, Wilt, %26amp; Shaq failed to achieve this award. That's how much of a honor it is to have that award.

4. It's not only a nba award, it's a ALL sports award. To achieve that award means you've outshined everyone in every sport (including the season nba mvp).

5. Both are voted by sports PEOPLE. So there is no reason to say SI is nothing but a popularity contest, %26amp; if it was then those other greats should of won it!

sports illustrated sportsman of the year becuase NBA MVP is only out of 360 NBA players. unlike MVP, sportsman of the year involves your on the field play and how you help your community and others in addition to behaving yourself. Also, it is much harder considering you're running against hundreds of players from all professional sport leagues. i congratulate D-Wade for winning it. only problem is being NBA MVP is a lot more valuable if you want to get to the Hall of Fame.

I think an NBA player would rather be MVP. One thing to keep in mind is that basketball fans don't remember Sportsman of the Year, but they remember how many times you were MVP. Plus, Wade was the best of a somewhat weak field of candidates last year.

NBA MVP is a great achievement. But i agree SISOY is the best award. it means you overcame a disease or took over a team or set a record or even shown you are a true leader.

NBA MVP doesn't do that. it shows your team did well and you lead them.

They are different because the MVP is what you earn in the league play hard and being a sportsmanship non selfish and another good things that make a player a superstar.SI Sport man of the year is award more for the image like Dwayne because if u remember he was one of the 2006 Peoples 50 sexiest man and finally he ended winning the NBA Finals MVP.

I think the MVP is better because the MVP is for the best player that had the numbers on everything and played harder not for the image.
It's two different awards. The MVP is given to the best player in that season. The Sportsman is given to the player SI thinks is the best in that season. In the NBA they check stats, winning records, leadership, team record, player record etc. SI check who has made the best impact on a winning team......ok so it's sort of the samething. SI award is a more publicized award, so it should mean more.

SPORTSMAN of the year, or mvp of one league? sportsman of year is a much bigger honor than nba mvp, sportsman of the year can come from anysport, NBA MVP, only select few are even really looked at to be mvp

its gotta be the si sportsman of the year award, because not only are you being called the best player in your sport, your being called the best athlete in all of sports

i do think though that the nba mvp award is the most important to the players
